How It Works

Our Methodology

Playgrounds Guide ratings are built on real parent experiences — here's exactly how we turn thousands of reviews into actionable scores.

Where the Data Comes From

Every rating on Playgrounds Guide starts with real parent reviews from Google. We collect recent reviews for each venue — prioritizing the last 12–18 months — so ratings reflect what families are experiencing now, not years ago. We filter out very short or uninformative reviews and cap the total to keep the analysis focused on the most relevant feedback.

How Ratings Are Generated

We use AI to analyze the collected reviews and identify patterns across six categories. A single negative review doesn't lower a score — we look for consistent patterns across many parents saying the same thing. The result is a grade of Strong, It Can Vary, or Concerns for each category.

Toddler Safety

How well the space is designed for little ones, including equipment scale, soft flooring, and staff attentiveness.

Parent Sightlines

How easy it is for parents to watch their kids throughout the venue without blind spots or barriers.

Noise & Sensory

Overall noise levels and how the environment feels for kids or parents who are sensitive to stimulation.

Cleanliness

How consistently parents report the space, equipment, and bathrooms as clean and well-maintained.

Parent Comfort

Seating availability, Wi-Fi, café options, and how welcome parents feel while their kids play.

Birthday Party Hosting

Staff responsiveness, party room quality, and overall experience for families hosting events.

What the Grades Mean

Strong

Consistently positive feedback across many reviews. A reliable choice for this category.

It Can Vary

Mixed feedback — some parents love it, others have concerns. Worth reading the context.

Concerns

Multiple parents flagged issues in this area. Go in with eyes open.

Not Yet Rated

We don't have enough reviews to rate this category confidently yet.

What We Don't Do

We don't accept payment from venues. We don't let venues edit or dispute their scores. We don't rate venues on fewer than a minimum number of reviews — if we can't be confident, we say so. Venues can change over time, and we rescore cities periodically as new reviews come in.
